Stirling University has been called on to do more to tackle sex crimes after a study revealed the of complaints among students. Campaign group Reclaim Stirling say half of the people who responded to their survey had experienced some form of sexual violence or harassment in their time at the university.
They spoke to a total of current and former students and staff, with 79 of these reporting some form of incident — making up 53 per cent of all respondents. Out of those remaining, just under a quarter reported hearing from someone they knew that they had been victim to sexual violence or harassment during their time at the university. The statistics reveal that the majority of reported incidents either took place in off-campus settings including prominent bars in the city or in campus accommodation.
There are still gaps in how support can be offered and how the message that we believe survivors is relayed and acted upon. Guided by our t strategy — first launched in — Stirling sex date working with students, staff and specialist partners, including survivors with lived experience, we continue to tackle gender-based violence through both prevention and response.
